It has been revealed that the capes used in the show, which is now in its seventh season, are actually rugs from IKEA.
Former costume designer, Michele Clapton who worked as a costume designer for the shows first five seasons said that herself and her costume team had cut, shaved and dyed the rugs to style them in to the wonderful capes that you see on your screens.
While giving a talk at UCLA she said, “The budget is the same every year regardless of what we’re filming- it’s okay, but its never enough” she continued, “Sometimes if you’re restricted it makes you more clever about what you’re doing.”
