A priest in Cork has expressed concern about inappropriate items as funeral gifts.
Fr Thomas Walsh said bringing things such as a can of beer or a packet of cigarettes does not tell us anything uplifting about the person who has died.
Fr Walsh is also against offering up a remote control or a mobile phone.
So what should we be offering up instead?
Fr Walsh recommends items such as a flower, a family photograph or a prayer book, saying they reveal far more about a person than booze or cigarettes.
