Steve Menaa lives in Cobh in Cork. His mission is to work, rest, and play on Mars. Steve is the only remaining Irish person in the shortlist for the Mars One Project.
The 46 year old IT Worker is in the last 100 candidates which will soon be whittled down to 24, who will all then receive full astronaut training.
It's essentially a one-way ticket and the plan is to colonise the planet with no plans for return. Steve says his son Axel, 15 is fully behind him (well you would be...think of the house parties!) and says "There is absolutely no reason this won't happen, because we have the technology to do this. If you go back in time to ten years before the moon landing in 1969, everybody was laughing when it was suggested that was possible,”
"There's a long way to go, but I hope I'll be representing Ireland on Mars."
A new Sir Henry's on Mars? Well, there'll defo be a Hillbillys!
