Friday 3rd October saw the great and the good of the radio industry congregate in Kilkenny for the PPI Radio Awards 2014 - affectionately dubbed the Oscars for Radio. Everyone from local and national stations the length and breadth of the country descended on the Lyrath Estate to see who would be crowned in glory.
and it was a great night for Today FM.
hosted by Gunther Gruhn (a.k.a. Barry Murphy) the night got off on the right note with the induction of Tony Fenton into the PPI Hall of Fame, received by a standing ovation.
Today FM went on to win 3 bronze awards (for Tony Fenton, Ray D'Arcy and Premier League. Live), 5 silver (Paul McLoone, The Ray D'Arcy Show, Shave or Dye, Championship Sunday and the National Lunchtime News) and 3 gold awards.
The first gold was awarded to the Ian Demosey Breakfast Show for Best Breakfast Programme with the same show taking gold for Gift Grub in the Entertainment Inserts category.
But the best was saved for last as the gold for the final award of the night - Full Service Station Of. The Year - also went to Today FM. So we can now officially say, we are delighted to be the best station in the country!
