35-year-old Nik Wallenda has successfully completed back-to-back high-wire walks above the city of Chicago.

Thousands of people lined the streets of the windy city to watch the tightrope walker make the two skyscraper crossings without a safety net or a harness.

The first walk was a steep incline between buildings either side of the Chicago River. It took 6 minutes 52 seconds to complete the 500ft (152m) crossing - in winds that were gusting at up to 25mph (40km/h).

The second blindfolded walk was a 94ft crossing between the two Marina City towers – a walk that took 1 minute 17 seconds to complete.

The stunts were televised with a 10-second delay in case of a fall. Here’s a taster of the event:

Wallenda, a seventh-generation performer, set two new records: the steepest tightrope walk and the highest blindfolded walk.
