In 2008, Simon was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a debilitating neurological condition that left him without the ability to move (read more here).
Not one to give up, the father-of-5 has kept himself busy by writing a film script.
My Name is Emily got the green light this summer and is now into its third week of filming (with two to go) and Simon has been on set 11 hours a day, every day of the shoot.
Simon, who is assisted by support director Liz Gill, watches and monitors everything from a 'video village'. Check out these photos from the set:
