The first ‘human chain’ in Ireland is set to take place in Kilkenny on Thursday July 18th, for a very special cause.

People will come together to form a chain around the centre of the city to raise funds for the Chernobyl Children.

There are currently around 25 young people from Belarus staying with families in Kilkenny and they will also take part in the chain.

Each person taking part will purchase a poster (€5) before hand and write one word that comes to mind when they think about about Chernobyl.

Shortly after 6:15 next Thursday, all posters will be raised in the air together.

Event organisers say they are getting a massive response from local businesses, with some bars providing live music which will spill out on to the streets of Kilkenny.

If you live near the area you can purchase a poster and head along on July 18th, or if you simply want to donate and help this special cause, you can still purchase a poster and the money will go a long way towards helping organisers reach their goal.

Posters can be purchased here

Best of luck to all involved!
