While metering starts today, your first water bill won’t arrive until early January.
Key points: the assessed charge is calculated on 66,000 litres of consumption for a single adult household, plus 21,000 litres for each additional adult. Every home gets an allowance of 30,000 litres per annum. Homes with children under 18 will get an additional allowance of 21,000 litres per child per annum.
How much water do we actually use?
According to taptips.ie, here are some examples of how much water we use in everyday activities:
Bath - 80 litres
5 minute shower - 35 litres
Power shower - 125 litres in less than 5 minutes
Brushing teeth with tap running - 6 litres per minute
Brushing teeth with tap off - 1 litre
W.C. flush standard - 9 litres
W.C. flush modern - 6 litres
Washing machine (modern) - 45 litres
Washing machine - 65 litres
Dishwasher - 20 litres
Washing car with bucket - 10 litres
Hosepipe - 9 litres per minute
