George Clooney has a lot to celebrate at the moment.
His wedding to international law and human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin is expected to take place the weekend after next in Venice, Italy.
He’s obviously a man head over heels.
For someone who doesn’t normally make public declarations of love, the handsome groom-to-be made us reach for the tissues last week when he declared his love for Amal and said he “can't wait to be her husband” during an acceptance speech at The Celebrity Fight Night in Tuscany where he received a Humanitarian Award.
Now the actor, director, writer and producer can soon celebrate another honour: an honorary Golden Globe Award.
He’ll receive The Cecil B. DeMille Award for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment".
It is named in honour of its first recipient (awarded in 1952) and previous honourees include: Judy Garland, Walt Disney, Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, Elizabeth Taylor, Steven Spielberg, Robin Williams, Martin Scorsese, Audrey Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, Jack Nicholson – to name a few.
George Clooney has previously won Golden Globes for Argo (Best Motion Picture – Drama for his work as producer), The Descendants (Best Actor), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (Best Actor - Motion Picture Musical or Comedy) and Syriana (Best Supporting Actor - Motion Picture).
He’s also won two Academy Awards for Syriana (Best Actor in a Supporting Role) and Argo (Best Picture).
The 72nd Golden Globes will take place on January 11th, 2015.
