World Radio Day is about celebrating radio, why we love it and why we need it today more than ever. A day to remember the unique power of radio to touch lives and bring people together across every corner of the globe.

Join the celebration!

Radio is a medium for the future. It has a duty to include young people, not just as listeners but as active producers and creators of content. Check out this infographic which celebrates radio for youth, with youth, by youth:

There are loads of ways in which you can join in the celebration:

1. Tune into the World Radio Day 2015 Live Broadcast

Broadcasters from around the world will broadcast LIVE from UNESCO HQ in Paris on Friday, 13 February.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and UNESCO are also hosting a joint live broadcast all day, which will be streamed online.

Want to see events that are going on all around the world? Check them out here on the World Radio Day Crowdmap!

2. Host a World Radio Day listening party

Get together with your friends and family and tune into your favourite radio shows – over the airwaves or online, it’s up to you! Click here to access a wealth of great content from Today FM over the past few weeks.

3. Share your love of radio on social media

You can update your social media profiles with a World Radio Day logo (here) and join the global conversation by posting using the official #worldradioday hashtag and tagging @UNESCO on Twitter.

The power of radio

Since its origins, radio has been shown to be the most useful medium of social communication for humanity. Radio waves go beyond borders and freely reach everybody and everywhere, being a very affordable receiver compared to other forms of media.

World Radio Day celebrates radio as a medium, improves international cooperation between broadcasters and encourages major networks and community radio alike to promote access to information, freedom of expression and gender equality over the airwaves.
