It’s been an exciting summer for Dublin Zoo who have welcomed two Asian elephant calves in the last few weeks.
The first calf, Kavi, was born to mother Yasmin on Thursday 17th July and Ashoka, born to mother Anak, arrived on Tuesday 19th August.
To celebrate the new arrivals, Dublin Zoo and The Natural Confectionery Company invited the public to help name the new bull calves via a competition on The Natural Confectionery Company Facebook page.
The winning names were announced this morning at an event at Dublin Zoo.
Sally Cullen’s suggestion of Kavi, an Indian word which means poet or wise man, was chosen for the first bull calk.
Katie Bush’s suggestion of Ashoka, after one of India’s greatest emperors, was chosen for the youngest member of the herd!
