'Night Mayor On Shop Street'
It sounds a bit like a pitch for a Freddie Kruger horror movie based in the Wesht but it's actually genius!
Maybe it should be 'Night M-Eyre Square' ....no? Tough crowd.
Anyhoo...
According to The Galway Advertiser, Social Democrats Galway City East councillor Owen Hanley wants a second Mayoralty to look after the city after hours to "promote the exciting life after dark that already exists in Galway"
"Galway is known for its craic and the city council should provide the spaces for enjoyment, sociability, and creativity that are an essential part of a living town or city. A quality nightlife is a key part peoples leisure time."
Cities like Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and London (they call him a 'Night Czar' which means he has to walk the streets wearing a cape and monocle) all have night life Mayors.
Some people have already suggested the owner of the Roisin Dubh for the role!
