‘Change for Charity’ is a campaign which is asking the public to donate as many 1c and 2c coins as possible to help support a number of Irish charities.
We all have jars, boxes and bottles filled with 1c and 2c coins in our homes and offices so here’s the perfect excuse to put them to good use.
It is estimated that there is over €35m in circulation of these coins in Ireland – that's 2 billion coins
Collection units will be located in selected retail outlets, banks and schools nationwide for everyone to bring their coins to.
What should I do?
Bring your coins to your local designated retailer or bank, or become an ambassador (more here)
Who is supporting the campaign?
You’ll find collection boxes in Penney’s, Supermacs, Supervalu, O’Brien’s cafe, The Bagel Factory, Bank of Ireland, AIB and many more.

Where is the money going?
The profits of the campaign will be divided 6 ways: equally to the 5 selected charities (Irish Heart Foundation, Society of St Vincent de Paul, Irish Autism Action, St Francis Hospice, Gaisce (The President’s Award) and Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services) and the 6th strand of income will go to smaller charities, community projects and youth groups.
The campaign will be run and managed by the Irish Famine Commemoration Fundwhich was founded by Norma Smurfit and has been supporting Irish charities for over 30 years.
