The one and only Nile Rodgers joined KC in studio today to talk about music, to settle those Madonna rumours and to tell the story about how he nearly lost his most prized possession: The Hitmaker.
Nile’s in town for various dates around the country with Chic.
Chatting about eating, sleeping and thinking music, Nile told KC: “I’m bombarded all the time, I can write music about any situation because it sorts of writes itself. Now that doesn’t mean it’s good music, it just means it’s music.” He’s spent the last two days writing music in Dublin and explained that he always watching movies when he writes: “there’s always chatter in my head”.
As a producer he’s worked with some amazing people, including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Sister Sledge, Duran Duran, Diana Ross, Mick Jagger, INXS, Daft Punk, Debbie Harry, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson, Prince, Rod Stewart, The B-52s, Robert Plant, Depeche Mode, Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, Grace Jones, Bryan Ferry...the list goes on.
He said that Madonna is one of his “favourite people in the world to work with", and described his relationship with Michael Jackson as a non-judgemental big brother: “I was the hippy who defied his father”. Talking about Michael’s life he explained: “Michael’s world was so cut off in a strange way that he didn’t quite know why people didn’t relate to certain things that he thought was normal and fun and cool and just innocent”.
Nile recently got some good news: in July he was given the all-clear in his fight against prostate cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2010.
