This means McGregor will now fight Chad Mendes for the interim featherweight title at UFC 189 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with the winner facing Aldo to unify the belts.
Aldo is said to have withdrawn from the fight due to a rib injury he picked up in training last week.
MMA journalists Peter Carroll and Andrew McGahon are both traveling to Vegas next week to see Conor compete and they say that although some people disagree with the idea of an interim belt, it's still a huge fight for McGregor.
